Youth detention centre consultation in Northern Queensland

The Queensland Government is delivering the Making our Community Safer Plan to restore safety where you live and reduce the number of victims of crime in Queensland.

Youth detention centres are critical to making our community safer and provide youth offenders with structure, discipline and rehabilitation.  Under the Government’s ‘Detention with Purpose Plan’, youth receive compulsory education, mandatory behaviour management programs and consequences for good and bad behaviour. Additionally, under the Staying on Track program, every youth offender is provided with a comprehensive rehabilitation program for up to 12 months when exiting detention to support their transition back into the community.

Have your say

We want to hear your thoughts on the location and design for a proposed youth detention centre for the Northern Queensland region.

Members of the Northern Queensland community, local stakeholders, service providers, and groups – including Traditional Owners – are encouraged to share their views to ensure their needs and values are considered before a decision is made about the location and design of the proposed centre.
